The purpose of the county outreach campaign is to better understand the current animal and veterinary response operations for the various local jurisdictions, understand the structure of Animal Services within each jurisdiction, identify key animal response organizations with the county, learn about the current strengths and needs of each jurisdiction, and understand the current veterinary needs during a disaster.
With these completed reports, CVET has obtained a significant knowledge base, and it is CVET’s hope that these reports will also provide needed information for emergency management officials, first responders, and animal response personnel within and expanding beyond their respective jurisdictions. With the increasing number and severity of disasters, in combination with a shortage of veterinary care, there is an expectation that animal needs during disasters will continue to rise, and mutual aid support will become increasingly important. These completed reports will provide an overview of each county as well as a larger, regional picture of animal and veterinary response capacity.
We are actively in the process of gathering additional county information. If you would like to participate in part of our county outreach effort by facilitating a meeting for your county, or providing animal response information for your county, please contact us!
