During disaster response operations, animal responders provide care to a wide variety of species. It is important for animal responders to know the different needs of each species to prevent potential medical complications, worsening their current condition. CVET has developed various species-specific guidance documents with the support of local practitioners and the UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital to assist in the training and education of animal responders, specifically highlighting reasons to contact a veterinarian. County animal services and animal response organizations are encouraged to review these documents and incorporate any helpful information into their standard training practices.
